Ad Block for Chrome (and Firefox) – PT2

Some of you are hopefully now using Ad Block on a daily basis for cleaner and safer browsing (feel free to try this at home!).

I wanted to quickly provide you detail on how to bypass Ad Block (see section 1) and then additionally show you how to manually block adverts or bypass the block without disabling Ad Block.

Please note Ad Block has active advert website address/URL lists that are updated every day.

Please contact me if you need any help or have any questions. Please note these email instructions are provided as a guide you do not have to take any action.

Occasionally Ad Block may actually block an element of a web page you would normally like to see, In a worst case scenario it may block a pop up contact form or an online support chat window (for example).

To quickly disable Ad Block on a page do the following;

  1. Click on the Ad Block icon.

11

and then select Enabled for this site, this will toggle it to disabled for this site.

12

This is what it should look like.

13

Now reload the page by refreshing.

You can manually add an exceptions for a website and add additional URL’s (website addresses) to be blocked by Ad Block in the Ad Block settings menu.

  1. To configure Ad Block visit the following URL “chrome://extensions” or click on the far right options button and then click settings.  14

15

From there select  “Extensions”.

16

Under Extensions select options.

  1. A) To add white listed domains (safe), trusted domains see the examples below;17

  1. B) To manually add a new domain to be blocked simply find the advert url (website address) and add it to the list show below18

  1. To obtain the advert URL, see an example below;

Right click on the offending advert and copy url/web link address, take the first part (domain) and add it to section detailed in 3.B

19

Ref: http://sdk-ads.adk2x.com/blahblahblahblahblah

Converts to: “http://sdk-ads.adk2x.com” or “sdk-ads.adk2x.com”

20

Make sure your remove the extra part of the URL (ie delete the blahblahblah shown in the example above).

Please note on some adverts you may not be able to obtain the link address, it is often easier to find when a pop up window is opened because you can copy the address at the top.
